SMITH FANCIES A PODIUM

Bradley Smith produced his best result of the season in Assen last weekend. The 21 year old Oxfordshire rider was sixth riding the Tech 3 Mistral machine and fancies his first podium of the year before the summer break in two weeks’ time.

Marc Marquez is the rider to beat in the Moto2 class after his third win of the season in Assen. In similar style to Assen the Spanish teenager chases his third successive win at the Sachsenring with 125 and Moto2 victories in the last two years. He leads Andrea Iannone by 23 points in the Championship after winning a duel with the Italian in Holland while behind them two riders will look forward to starting afresh on Sunday.

Both Pol Espargaro and Tom Luthi who share third placed crashed out in separate Assen incidents. Just ten points behind them Scott Redding took his third podium of the season while his Marc VDS team-mate and Sachsenring 125 cc winner Mika Kallio could be a dark horse.

Londoner Gino Rea is having a tough Moto2 baptism and will be looking for a couple of points scoring rides on the Federal Oil Gresini machine before the break.

SACHSENRING FACTS AND FIGURES
The legendary 5.425 miles road circuit situated between Dresden and Leipzig staged the East German Grand Prix between 1961 -1972. Crowds approaching half a million would flock from all over Eastern Europe to the event. Eventually the circuit was deemed too dangerous for grand prix racing. The MotoGP World Championship returned to a very different Sachsenring in 1998. The Berlin wall had come down and Germany had been repatriated and grand prix racing returned to the tight 2.180 miles purpose built track which still incorporated part of the old road circuit.
