Smith returns to Phillip Island - Iveco Australian Grand Prix

Posted on Oct 10, 2011 by Nick Harris

Twenty year old Oxfordshire rider Bradley Smith has finished on the 125 podium at Phillip Island and he returns in the Moto2 class defending sixth place in the Championship. He has finished on the podium three times this season and the Tech3 rider shares sixth place with Tom Luthi who is a former 125 winner.

Bradley Smith
“I’ve got mixed memories of Phillip Island. I like the track but I can’t forget losing out on a win to Julian Simon on the last lap a couple of years ago. At least I learnt how to close the door at the MG Corner on the last lap if I’m leading. Apart from the race Motegi was a very encouraging weekend going into the last three races.”

Eighteen year old Spaniard Marc Marquez leads the Moto2 World Championship for the first time arriving at Phillip Island. His second place behind Andrea Iannone in Motegi gives him a single point lead over German Stefan Bradl who led since his victory in that first race in Qatar. The balance has really switched to Marquez, who won the 125 race last year, but Bradl will fight to the finish in a Championship that looks certain to be decided at the final round in Valencia.
