Super confident Smith returns to GP winning venue - Tim Grand Prix of Italy 2011

Posted on Jun 27, 2011 by Nick Harris

Twenty year old Bradley Smith returns to Mugello where he won a couple of years ago buoyed up by two podium finishes in the previous two rounds of the Moto2 World Championship.

The magnificent 3.259 mile Tuscan circuit stages the eighth round of the Championship, the TIM Grand Prix of Italy and Smith relishes the challenge at the track where he won the 125cc race two years ago. Riding the Tech3 Honda he moved into fourth place in the World Championship following his third place in the wet at the previous round in Holland and is just seven points behind second placed Marc Marquez who won in Assen.

Bradley Smith:
When it started to rain again in Assen and I knew I had a chance of the podium I just did the sensible thing and took the 16-points.  It kept drying out and I found it more difficult, but to get that result was absolutely awesome. I love Mugello so hopefully I'll be very competitive there next weekend. I won there a couple of years ago and both me and the team go to Italy with great confidence and hoping for some better weather.”

After two miserable wet weekends the MotoGP teams arrive in Mugello for round eight of the World Championship seeking some sunshine at the TIM Grand Prix of Italy.

It promises to be an intriguing battle round the magnificent 3.259 miles Mugello circuit that nestles in the contours of the Tuscan hills high above the City of Florence.
